When is it okay for an elected official to refuse an interview with the largest newspaper in its district?
When is it okay for an elected official to refuse an interview with the largest newspaper in its district?
Well, apparently it is when ever Sheriff Truman Jones feels like it. He recently refused to answer questions that other candidates were asked this past week. The Murfreesboro Daily News Journal ran an article that outlined the responses to questions asked of Republican Candidate Robert Arnold and the independent candidate. The newspaper, however, first boldly declared that the sitting Sheriff refused to answer the questions. However, RCSO Deputy Chief Virgil Gammon later provided Jones' campaign qualifications and platform via a printed document. But Sheriff Jones never answered the basic interview questions.
There is an old saying "Truth never has to run away from scrutiny, but one who has something to hide ducks scrutiny."
Isn't it time that we elect a Sheriff in Rutherford County who will be responsive to the people? This episode was followed by Sheriff Jones not showing up at the League of Woman Voters Forum on Monday June 28, 2010.
It's up to you the voters to make your voices heard and vote for Robert Arnold (R) for Sheriff. Remember early voting begins on July 16th and runs through the 31st with the Election Day on August 5, 2010.
