This year’s 2010 Reagan Day Dinner was our most successful dinner in both attendance and fundraising in history with over 320 in attendance.
This year's 2010 Reagan Day Dinner was our most successful dinner in both attendance and fundraising in history with over 320 in attendance. This year's dinner was held at the Stone's River Country Club on Saturday March 27, 2010. Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn was the featured speaker for the event. Candidates for Governor and Congress also spoke. We had a record 36 Republican candidates in attendence.
Although the first elected Republican Party President can be trance back to as far as Thomas Jefferson, Democratic-Republican party or Abraham Lincoln who ran as first Republican Party Candidate elected; Ronald Reagan our 40th President represents and embraces the modern era Republican Principles.
Let's take a short look at him. President Reagan assumed office in one of the worse economic climates and geopolitical environments in modern times since the great depression and WW II.[It was soon after the newest economic index had been developed to measure " Misery Index"] Interest rates were on there way to 20 plus, unemployment was more than 10% and we had over a hundred hostages in Iran for over 6 months. But in typical Reagan fashion his rhetoric matches his actions. [quite unusual to day's standard?]Appears the current administration and the media have forgotten this time in history?
The mear threat of action caused the Iranian Government to release the hostages a few hours after the inauguration. This was the beginning of a forceful foreign policy that truly regained a position of respect and leadership in the world economy. Who can forget his comments at the Berlin Wall when he said " Mr. Gorbachev tear down this wall"!
Reagan, who did not have a Republican Congress neither majority status in the US Senate nor the US House of Representative, worked in bi-partisan effort to achieve tax relief for all the American people and businesses. This was one of the foundational moves that turned around a very troubled economy and stands as a living example that more government intervention is not the answer!
Reagan was quoted as saying "Government is the problem! It rings true today. Further he said "All great change in America begins at the Dinner Table", "Entrepreneurs and their small enterprises are responsible for almost all the economic growth in the United States", and "Don't be afraid to see what you see" smaller government and more self reliance are the answers to individual and corporate problems, dilemmas, situations, and circumstances we face as the citizenry throughout this great country called the United States. It is always good to be reminded that We the People have the answers and We can be Trusted to do the Right thing without Washington ordering our every step.
We thank all those who attended the dinner and at the private reception held beforehand at the home of Terry and Joe Swanson, Jr. in Murfreesboro .
Good Luck to all of our candidates.
